Pastor

Who are we looking for?

We seek an experienced pastor to disciple and grow Grace Church Cheltenham.

As a church formed 10 years ago that is now established, we are looking for a man with the experience and passion to grow us as faithful disciples, in our predominately-young-family church membership. We have a desire to appoint someone with pastoral and relational gifts, who can walk alongside us, soundly teach from the bible, grow the church in deeper personal faith and enable us to share the gospel confidently.

You will join our existing staff team, currently made up of a full-time assistant pastor and 3 part-time staff. You will be supported by a plurality of elders and trustees, who you will shepherd the church alongside.

Essential and desirable skills and experience

The man appointed will be required to fulfil the biblical characteristics expected of church elders, including the ability to teach God’s word faithfully (1 Timothy 3, Titus 1) and agree with the FIEC statement of faith. We are also ideally seeking someone who has:

  • an affection for, and is gifted at, pastoral care and ministry
  • experience at directing and delegating activities amongst a wider team

Who are we?

Based in the beautiful Cotswolds town of Cheltenham, Grace Church Cheltenham is a reformed, evangelical, FIEC church of around 80 adult members and 60 children, committed to “making disciples of Jesus by sharing God’s message of grace”. We have an informal and friendly family feel. We formed 10 years ago and meet in a school hall on Sundays at 4pm, and throughout the week in homes for smaller bible study and groups. We have a monthly prayer meeting, as well as ministries aimed at discipling men and women, teens, 20s and 30s, and new parents. Some of these things we do alongside other like-minded local churches and we are keen to continue to promote local church partnership.

The heart of our Sundays@4 meeting is relevant and robust Bible teaching, with a clear focus on expository preaching. We run several children’s groups most weeks, with an all-age service once per half term to remind us that we are “all of God’s people together under all of God’s word”.

About 1 year ago, as part of an updated church vision, we started to tentatively explore the idea of finding a more permanent venue, in a residential community, through this has been less of a priority whilst we seek a new lead pastor.

Salary

We offer a salary of around £30,000, as well as the provision of a rented house (or equivalent housing allowance) and pension contributions intended to broadly match the Church of England’s pension scheme.
